Mechanical response of a thick poroelastic gel in contactless colloidal-probe rheology

چکیده

When a rigid object approaches soft material in viscous fluid, hydrodynamic stresses arise the lubricated contact region and deform material. The elastic deformation modifies turn flow, hence generating soft-lubrication coupling. Moreover, elastomers gels are often porous. These materials may be filled with solvent or uncrosslinked polymer chains, might permeable to surrounding which complexifies further description. Here, we derive point-force response of semi-infinite poroelastic substrate. Then, use this fundamental solution order address specific lubrication coupling associated contactless colloidal-probe methods. In particular, conservative dissipative components force oscillating vertical motion sphere close Our results relevant for dynamic surface apparatus atomic microscopy experiments on soft, living and/or fragile materials, such as swollen hydrogels biological membranes.

Connecting nanoscale motion and rheology of gel-forming colloidal suspensions.

We report a combined x-ray photon correlation spectroscopy and rheometry study of moderately concentrated suspensions of silica colloids that form a gel on cooling. During gel formation, the suspensions acquire a shear modulus that increases with time, while the thermal motion of the colloids becomes localized over an increasingly restricted range. The nanometer-scale localization length charac...

Nonequilibrium structure and rheology of concentrated colloidal suspensions: Linear response

We propose a simple theory for the pair distribution function of a sheared colloidal suspension. The starting point is an exact equation for the stationary state pair distribution. We assume that in a shear flow the higher order distributions can be expressed through the pair distribution in the same way as in an equilibrium state. To get explicit results we use a simple decoupling approximatio...

Nonlinear rheology of colloidal dispersions.

Colloidal dispersions are commonly encountered in everyday life and represent an important class of complex fluid. Of particular significance for many commercial products and industrial processes is the ability to control and manipulate the macroscopic flow response of a dispersion by tuning the microscopic interactions between the constituents. An important step towards attaining this goal is ...

Structure -rheology relationship for a homogeneous colloidal gel under shear startup

The structural anisotropy and shear rheology of colloidal gels under startup of shear flow are calculated by Brownian Dynamics simulations modified to include particle surface-mediated attractions, which is a model for thermoreversible colloidal gels. Shear-induced structural changes are analyzed in both real and reciprocal space through computation of the pair distribution function and structu...

Rheology of colloidal microphases in a model with competing interactions.

We study the rheological properties of colloidal microphases in two dimensions simulating a model of colloidal particles with competing interactions. Due to the competition between short-range attraction and long-range repulsion, as a function of the density the model exhibits a variety of microphases such as clusters, stripes, or crystals with bubbles. We prepare the system in a confined micro...
